Apple in Bowl (Oil)

This picture was done for a final exam in my oil painting class. We were given three hours from start to finish and, as often happens, I did great work since I was under pressure of time. I was very pleased with the result - and my professor was too.

Jungle Mural

This mural was done in the bedroom of two little boys (one is pictured here so that the viewer can get a sense of the scale of the mural). First, a coating of green paint was used to cover the entire wall space. The mural itself mostly covered one wall, spilling out onto the sides with vines and moss hanging from the ceiling around the entire room. Some of the boys' favorite jungle creatures were featured on the wall. A number of details are shown.


And...this mural glows in the dark! When the lights go out at night, the eyes, claws, and teeth of all the animals glows in the dark. It really lends to the imagination and makes so you can almost hear the night insects chirping in the rainforest.

White Charcoal Portraits

If you double click on one of the portraits, you will be able to see a smaller, full picture views of the drawings, whereas this view allows you to appreciate the detail of the pencil strokes and shading. 

The two portraits below started off my interest in using white charcoal or pastels on dark paper. White charcoal on black paper is all I wanted to use to draw for a while after I discovered this great combination. I have found the media choice to be rather haunting and have seen that it adds an intensity to looking into a person's soul. I have done a number of white charcoal portraits, but the two below are my favorite.
